Shopping App Pitfalls

Downsides of Grocery Shopping Apps

Working for an app-based grocery delivery service like Instacart can be both a rewarding and challenging experience. Oftentimes, this type of job is seen as an ideal way to earn extra money in one’s spare time.

Unfortunately, there are some downsides that should not be overlooked. For starters, working for a mobile app does not come with the same benefits that other full-time employment might provide.

There is no guarantee of regular pay, users do not receive health insurance or other forms of compensation, and customer ratings can adversely affect how much money you make in the long run. Additionally, because the job requires such high speed and accuracy on very short turnarounds, it can be physically demanding and lead to burnout quickly. Shoppers must also deal with some customer dissatisfaction when orders are incorrect or incomplete. This could potentially lead to negative reviews on the app which could hinder future earnings—and make it difficult to find new customers who trust you as a shopper.

Moreover, the shopping app doesn’t have any strict regulations on how many hours drivers should work in order to stay safe on the road; meaning that drivers may be more prone to distraction or even falling asleep behind the wheel due to exhaustion from long hours at work. Ultimately while working as a driver/shopper for apps like Instacart may offer convenience and flexibility, it’s important to consider all of these factors before committing to this type of employment opportunity. Knowing ahead of time what potential issues you might face will help prepare you if they arise, allowing you to enjoy your job more and create a better work/life balance.
